Over the summer of 2012, with nineteen
friends, I boarded a cruise ship named Carnival Spirit. It was a large
cruise ship that was able to house almost 3000 passengers comfortably. Before
this trip, I had never been on such a large ship, nor have I been at sea for
more than half a day let alone 10 days. I honestly did not know what to expect
but I was pleasantly surprised. The boat was beautiful inside, it was very
elegantly decorated and reminded me of casinos with chandeliers, marble tiles,
glass elevators and gold-gilded staircases.
We began the trip with 3 days at sea. The
first day, most of us suffered motion sickness and did not find the gentle
rocking of the boat very comfortable- we often found ourselves walking with a
slant because we could not keep upright. On the 2nd and 3rd
day, the twenty of us had adapted to the sea and found the activities on the
boat very enjoyable. Upon the deck there were spas, swimming pools, water
slides and areas where you could relax on a sun-bed to absorb the sun’s ray whilst
enjoying a tall glass of long island iced tea or a mojito. There were also
saunas, fancy restaurants, board game areas, clubbing/party areas as well as
trivia nights, live talk shows, live performers and many more.
Not to mention the service and food on the ship was absolutely amazing! We had everything from steak, lamp chops to seafood and even escargots. The best thing? It was free and all you could eat!

Together we will embark on this journey on the Carnival Spirit to see the exotic islands of Vanuatu and New Caledonia.
So long Sydney!
